Obituary

Betty Doris Mae “Cox” Hopkins 83, of North Port, Florida, formerly of Madisonville, KY. entered rest on Wednesday, January 9, 2019.

She was born on February 23, 1935 in Winslow, IN to George Washington Cox and Lelah “Doughty” Cox.

Betty graduated from Oakland City College with her teaching degree, and University of Evansville with a Master’s Degree.  She formerly taught elementary school for 30 years until she retired in 1998.

Betty was a longtime member of Eastern Star and the Methodist Church.  She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, and enjoyed spending time with her family at the beach.

Preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, James Clayton Hopkins.

Son:  Roger and Ellie (Boyle) Hopkins of North Port. Florida

Daughters:  Roxanne Davis of North Port, Florida, and Ruth and Hugh Wirth of Oakland City, Indiana

Grandchildren: Andy and Melanie Hopkins, Ryan and Dane Osborne, Crystal, Brooke, and Andrea Wirth, and Jennifer Maikranz and Jamie “Maikranz” Steele

Great-Grandchild: Adalyn and Lincoln Hopkins, Rylee Jo Roxanne Osborne, and Chloe and Hunter Blades

Brother-in-law:  Eldon Hopkins of Newburgh, IN.

Sister-in-law and best friend: Clara Cox

Graveside services will be in May at Forsythe Cemetery in Oakland City.  The exact date will be announced in the future.
