Obituary

Mrs. Betty Jean Winn passed away at Vitas Hospice in Rockledge, Florida on February 15, 2023, at the age of 90.  Betty Jean was born May 5, 1932, in High Point, North Carolina.  She is survived by her loving husband, Hugh Winn, Jr. of Cocoa, Florida; two daughters, Karen Solana of Louisburg, North Carolina and Stacey Foster of Cocoa, Florida; and three sons, Richard Winn of Winter Garden, Florida, David Winn of Cocoa, Florida and Jeffrey Winn of Charlotte, North Carolina.  She has eleven grandchildren and many great grandchildren who will each miss her greatly.

A devout Christian, Betty Jean enjoyed the love, support and friendship of many fellow parishioners of Frontenac Baptist Church.  When she was not guiding and nurturing her five children, Betty Jean was an avid reader, seamstress and supporter of her community through volunteer services to the elderly.  Particularly, Betty was a true homemaker in every sense of the word.  She decorated and showed cakes at fairs, was a member of the Canaveral Groves Homemakers Association, sewed clothes and quilts, participated in prayer groups, Sunday school, taught exercise and participated at her sons’ high school wrestling events.  In the 70s Betty could be found anywhere that the Cocoa High School wrestling team was competing – everyone in that gym knew when a Winn boy was on the mat because of Betty’s loud and distinctive hoot!  As a devoted and loving wife, Betty Jean also enjoyed hours of square dancing with her equally talented husband.

A Celebration of Life service will be held Saturday, March 11, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. EST at Frontenac Baptist Church, 5500 N. Highway 1, Cocoa, Florida 32927. Pastor Bill McGinnish will host the services.  If you wish to send flowers for this occasion, please consider live flowering plants (e.g., Azaleas) so that her love and beauty may be enjoyed well beyond her Celebration.  In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the organizations that Betty Jean and Hugh supported and believed in: The Salvation Army, The American Legion and/or Frontenac Baptist Church.
