Obituary
BETTY S. MOORE passed away January 18 at the Villages Regional Hospital. Born in Norfolk, VA to Nellie and EdwardAllen Smith in 1932, she was a graduate of The College of William & Mary/VPI, Norfolk Division. She was voted outstanding woman athlete in her graduating class and was the First woman president of Old Dominion University’s booster club, The Monarch Club.Her career included 11 years as secretary to the resident vice president of Norfolk & Western Railroad in Norfolk; 15 years as Executive Secretary to the Chairman of the Board of Directors at Landmark Communications, Inc. in Norfolk; and 5 years as Executive Secretary to the President of Martin Community College, Williamston, NC.Betty moved from Washington, NC to The Villages in 2007 where she loved golf, dancing, and water aerobics. She was a self-proclaimed “sports junkie” following mostly collegiate basketball and football. In her true sports supporter style, she has established The Betty Smith Moore Scholarship for women’s basketball at Old Dominion University in Norfolk, VA.Many friends and neighbors will miss her abundant humor and her loyal friendship.
