Obituary

It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Betty Johns Wingard, 82, who started her path on the road to Heaven and to her Savior, Jesus Christ, on Tuesday, April 25, 2023, in Ormond Beach, FL. She was born on November 19, 1940, to parents Elmer and Artie Johns in Daytona Beach, FL.

Betty was a lifelong resident of the Daytona Beach / Ormond Beach area. She attended Volusia Avenue School and graduated with honors from Mainland High School with the Class of 1958. On July 22, 1960, she married the love of her life, Jack L. Wingard, and she was very proud of being married to him for 62 years. Her pet name for Jack was “Poo Bear”. He was kind, compassionate, and a wonderful husband to Betty, and she loved him dearly.

In 1971, Betty graduated with honors as a Registered Nurse from Daytona Community College. She loved being an RN and thought of nursing as an extension of her Christian ministry. She was a charter member of Central Baptist Church when she joined in 1960. One of her support systems at the church was the “Joy Sunday School”, which she enjoyed attending.

One of the saddest days of her life was when she lost her beloved son, Blaine Elmer Wingard. She also lost her beloved grandson, Cody Neson Swartzfager, and her precious daughter, Beth Ann Smith, who passed this past June. Betty was also predeceased by her parents, Elmer and Artie Johns, her two sisters, Joann Clark and Deanna Pollard, and her brother Ronnie Johns, who passed in Vietnam.

Betty is survived by her husband Jack L. Wingard, her brother-in-law Junior (Kay) Wingard, brother-in-law Harold Clark, and sister-in-law Christine Higginbotham. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

The Viewing will be held 4:00pm – 6:00pm Friday, May 5, 2023, at Central Baptist Church, Daytona Beach, FL. Jack would like to invite friends and family to stay after and share a meal in Adams Hall at the church.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00am Saturday, May 6, 2023, at Central Baptist Church, 152 Fairview Ave, Daytona Beach, FL 32114. Graveside services will follow at 12:30pm at Volusia Memorial Park, Ormond Beach, FL.

Pall bearers will be Jeffrey Wingard, Carlton Moore, Jeffery Moore, Matt Robinson, Darren Pollard, and Dale Pollard. Flowers may be sent to Central Baptist Church of Daytona Beach, FL and memorial donations may be made to the Joy Sunday School, c/o Central Baptist Church, 152 Fairview Ave, Daytona Beach, FL 32114.

Betty is dearly loved by her family and friends, and her memory and love will always be in our hearts.
