Obituary

Beverly “Bev” P. Bowling, 88, of Ormond Beach, FL, made his way to heaven on July 15, 2024. Bev was born in a log cabin on December 3, 1935, to Beverly Pryor Bowling and Martha Napier in Bowlingtown (Perry County) KY.

Bev is survived by his wife of 61 years, Mary Bowling, daughter Terrilyn (Brent) Gilliatt, son Deron Bowling and Audrae Kores, daughter Dawn (Ed) Schwendenmann, and son Joel Bowling, grandchildren Emily, Laura, Aaron, Kate, Harrison, Jake, Logan, Hannah, Alex and Emma, as well as 4 great grandchildren, sister Nancy Barnes, and a host of beloved nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Beverly and Martha Bowling, son Mark Bowling, great grandson Tobias Rex Smith, and sisters Clare Gay, Jean Barger, and Louise Anderson.

Bev was a lifelong entrepreneur, owning multiple gas stations and auto repair business, later investing in real estate. He was an avid golfer, a member of The Quitters Golf group, with a lifetime achievement scoring a hole-in-one. Bev loved playing cards of all types. He was a long-time Cincinnati Bengals and Cincinnati Reds fan and enjoyed watching other spectator sports.

Bev enjoyed spending time with family and friends. He will always be remembered for his colorful storytelling and bantering with relatives and friends. Retiring at age 55, he and his wife cruised the world, visiting each continent, missing only Africa and Antarctica. They also traveled the United States extensively, visiting family and friends, as well as seeing historical and cultural sites.

Bev was a member of the Masonic Order at the Pleasant Ridge Montgomery Lodge, the Valley of Cincinnati Scottish Rite and Lighthouse Christ Presbyterian Church. He was deemed an Honorable Kentucky Colonel by Governor Louis B. Nunn.

A Visitation with coffee and donuts will be held at 10:00am, followed by the Memorial Service at 11:00 am Friday, August 16, 2024, at Lighthouse Christ Presbyterian Church worship center, 1035 W. Granada Blvd, Ormond Beach, FL 32174. Reception to follow.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 1:00 pm Saturday, September 14, 2024, in Bowlingtown, KY at Buckhorn Lake State Park.

I will miss Bev. Over the years he was a gentleman and a pleasure to play golf with. Looking back over the many years we played golf together, I only regret not giving him some of the shorter putts he eventually missed! I hope to see you again someday my friend.

Beverly was a life time friend of mine, 88 years until death. We went to school from premier through 12th grade. The four years of High school we rode in the back of Bob Holiday ‘s pickup truck. We talked and kept up with each other throughout life. I will miss him as a brother! Thank God I got to visit with him over the July 4th Holiday in 2023 at Bowlingtown KY. Looking forward to continuing our friendship in Heaven soon. Thanks to Jesus Christ our Lord.
