BIRTIE LORETTA STARKEY STAIGER DAVIS
Born Mar 18, 1951 in Forrest City, AR, to F.L. Starkey & Anna Marie (Hamilton). At age three her family moved to Madiera, CA. Known as “Loretta” to her family she was preceded in death by her parents and her Starkey siblings: Bradford, Shirley, Lovan & Chester. As a child her family often boated and fished The Salton Sea.
Growing up in Brawley, CA Birtie Loretta was active in Brawley Assembly of God Church and attended public schools including Brawley HS.
June 1968 married Theodore Staiger, together they produced four children who survive: Michael George, Audra Marie (Gastelo), Timothy James and Dorothy Kathleen (Cosio). Grandchildren Justin Freddy Staiger & Nibriel Marie Gastelo, Teanna Marie Staiger, Ashlee Nicole & Bryce Paige Cosio, Deja Skye Stowe, Kameron Johnson & Kyden Michael Staiger. Great-Granddaughter Skyler Ann Marie Staiger.
In Brawley Birtie Loretta is best remembered by many as “Miss Birtie,” School Bus Driver for 12 years. A memorable highlight in her career was being invited to drive bus in LA for the 1984 Olympic Games.
She married James Davis on Dec 30, 1994 in Ft Myers, FL…Would be married 25 years this December. In recent years they lived in Albuquerque, NM, Marion, OH and N Ft Myers, FL. Together Jim & Birtie enjoyed travel around the US and attended several NASCAR and Indy 500 Racing events.
