Boyd Junior Shreve, 91, of Deltona, Florida, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 11, 2012 at Debary Manor in Debary, Florida. He was born December 29, 1920 in Buckhannon, W.Va., the son of the late Lyman Cullivan Shreve and Mary Etta Ours Shreve. He was preceded in death by an infant sister, no name, a infant brother, Floyd Collins Shreve, a infant brother, David Page Shreve, a sister, Martha May Smith, a brother, Enoch Ralph Shreve and a brother, Charles William Shreve.
He is survived by a sister, Elizabeth Ruth Fortney of Kesling Mill, W.Va. On February 1, 1942 he married Eva Jane Mick, who survives. They had 4 children. Also surviving is their one son: Brian Shreve of Elyria, OH. Three daughters: Margaret Ann Sherrill of Panama City, FL; Marlene Sue Lewis of Vermilion, OH and Marion Louise Carnahan of Panama City, FL. Five Grand Children: Daniel Carson of Phoenix, AZ, James Michael Gerbasi of Butler, OH., Shirley Marie Gerbasi of LaGrange, OH., Joyce Kay Pippert of Findlay, OH., Stephen Manning of LaGrange, OH. Eleven Great Grand Children: James Jr., Christy Marie, Amanda, Matthew, Joseph, Alexis, Stephanie, Erica, Sarah, Isaac, Jenna. On July 29, 1966 he married Dorathea Marie Olsen Smith, who preceded him in death in 2009. They had 4 children. Also surviving is the one son: Richard Smith of Elyria, OH. Three daughters: Laura Ann Sustrik of Surprise, AZ, Susan Lee Sears of Oak Hill, W.Va., and Evelyn Louise Watson of Deltona, FL. Six Grand Children: Robert Sustrik of Henderson, NV, Tammy Fleming of Henderson, NV., ”Little” John Sustrik of Surprise, AZ., Felicia Lee Treadway of Oak Hill, W.Va., Larry Sears Jr. of Oak Hill, W.Va. and Robert Thomas Lee of Sanford, FL. Fifteen Great Grand Children: Chase, Eric, Ayden, Mia, Tiffany, Savannah, Bryce, Preston, Raven, Jaidyn, River, Ardyn, John IV, J.D., and Sarah. He graduated from Buckhannon Upshur High School in 1940. He continued his studies at West Virginia Wesleyan College in Buckhannon, W.Va. and received a degree in Business Administration. He worked as a grocery clerk for A & P Tea Company in Buckhannon, W.Va. from 1940 to 1942. He was in the U.S. Navy from 1942 to 1945. He started as an apprentice seaman and promoted to Yeoman (Personnel) Petty Officer First Class. Upon being transferred to a Receiving Station for shore duty, he was responsible for six civil service and ten enlisted personnel to process all records and navy personnel being transferred through the receiving station for other assignments. He served on the USS Seattle and USS Parrott – Destroyer in the Pacific fighting the Japanese in WW II. He was awarded various medals. He went back to A & P Tea Company from 1945 to 1952 working as a grocery clerk, coffee-dairy department head, relief cashier and relief assistant manager. In 1953 he went to work for Ford Motor Company in Cleveland, OH. Initially hired as an inventory checker, promoted thru positions of inventory clerk, production control man, and senior production control man to production control supervisor. After 24 years he retired in 1977 and moved to Florida. He was a member of the Volusia County Baptist Church in Orange City, FL. A private service will be held at Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, FL on May 11, 2012 at 2:30PM.
