Brax, I am so sorry that you had to leave us at this time of your life. I met you when I first joined the CG Auxiliary in 2008. The first thing you said to me was "If you like I will be your mentor". What a way to get started in a new organization and I worked with and for you in many positions over the years, it was a pleasure .
I remember the quiet discussions you and I had. We could talk about any subject but the most enjoyable ones were about the Coast Guard, the Auxiliary, the Law and Politics. You were always willing to listen to my thoughts and opinions and share your own with me. It was a great time and I felt that you and I had become good friends.
I was greatly impressed by your handicap, where you blew off your left hand as a kid. You never seemed to let that stop you in anything, including learning how to fly. You wanted me to teach you how to be a Cox'n on our Auxiliary boat, which takes a goodly amount of physical dexterity, but you got sick before we could complete the task. It told me though that you could do anything that you set your mind to. This demonstrated your great determination and character to me. Also you had many other qualities that I admired and they go on and on. I know that Sue, your family and friends are aware of them all.
You are a great loss to the CG Auxiliary and to the community.
So let me end this by saying, "Fair Winds and Following Seas" shipmate. I hope that I can catch up to you on the other side some day.
    Ron.....

Braxton was a friend and mentor--always available to answer a question or give advice. The Auxiliary was our common interest and we crossed paths many times. He gave his all no matter where he found himself as a leader. We will miss him. To Suzanna and the family, just know that we care and are saddened by his passing.

Braxton was my "hero", not that I told him that! We were in 7th grade when he and three other "idiots" decided to build a bomb and, on the way to the site, he and Kenny Robertson fought over who would carry the darn thing. Then, it went off. Braxton lost his left hand and three fingers on his right. HIs father said, "Son, you got yourself into this. What are you going to do to get yourself out?"
I don't know many that would still make something of himself after that! However, Braxton became an attorney and a Master Captain. He became the Legal Officer for the USCG Auxiliary, Seventh District, AFTER he had been the Company Commander of a local flotilla and two higher offices. He never thought of himself as "handicapped", just a stupid mistake.
Go with God, my friend, I miss you!
    Dee Kermode
