Obituary

After a courageous battle with cancer Brian Zachmann,73, of Cape Coral FL passed away on January 11, 2022. He is survived by his wife of 7 years Denise Zachmann of Cape Coral and his amazing 100 year old Mom, Bernice Zachmann of Fort Myers, FL. He was preceded in death by his parents Helen Morrissey Zachmann and Howard Zachmann of Freeport, NY. Brian has two daughters Sheila Bray (Lee) of Fort Walton Beach ,FL and Jennifer Fender (Jerry) of Lehigh Acres, FL and a son Michael Zachmann (Sarah) of Cape Coral, FL. He is stepdad to Andrea Goderich (Luis) of Cape Coral, FL and Serge Belcastro of Boston, MA. Brian also has 11 grandchildren, 1 step-grandson and 1 great grandchild.

Brian grew up in Freeport, NY and attended Freeport High School. He decided to follow in his father’s footsteps and join the United States Air Force. He was stationed at Eglin AFB, FL where he chose a career as a Flight Simulator Instructor. While in the Air Force he realized how much he loved Florida and decided to make it his home. Brian referred to the Florida sunsets as “the greatest show on earth every night”. After leaving the Air Force, he went to work for the USPS as a Maintenance Manager before retiring. Golfing and fishing were his favorite activities but he was also an avid bird watcher. Brian loved all his pets but especially his five Havanese puppies. He enjoyed watching them play in the yard and they always made him smile. He was a loyal fan for many years of the Tampa Bay Rays and Buccaneers. Brian loved to travel and enjoyed making all the arrangements himself, often planning the next trip before the current trip was over. Brian was a wonderful cook and enjoyed having a houseful of people to feed. He loved cooking Thanksgiving Dinner yet would never share his secret dressing/stuffing recipe. Over many years, Brian donated to several charities, Save the Children, ASPCA, St. Jude Children’s Hospital, Salvation Army and American Red Cross. Donations in Brian’s name can be made to any of these charities.

A memorial service will be held at Baldwin Brothers Funeral & Cremation 290 Nicholas Parkway Unit 19 Cape Coral, FL from 2-4pm on Friday March 4, 2022.
