Bruce Walter King, age 85, passed away on Sunday, the 18th of April 2021 with his loving family by his side. Bruce was born on December 15, 1935, to Adolphus and Gertrude King of Richmond Hill in Queens, NY. An early graduate of the State University of New York’s College for Teachers at Albany, Bruce began teaching mathematics to high school students at the age of 20. He was such a beloved teacher that his first class of students, who still hold yearly reunions, have kept in touch with him for over 60 years. A teacher and student, he went on to earn two Master’s degrees and his Doctorate. He married Mary T. Traudt in1962 and they settled in Burnt Hills, NY. In 1967, they adopted a daughter, Kristen, and later in 1970, a son, David. Bruce moved his family to New Milford, CT 10 years later to accept a teaching position at what was to become WCSU, Western Connecticut State University, he taught mathematics there for over 30 years. Dr. King was elected chairman of both the mathematics and computer science departments before retiring. During his retirement he continued to teach; at times tutoring gifted math students, other times; teaching senior citizens how to safely use the internet. The majority of his retirement, however, he spent researching his family tree. He found a new passion in genealogy and over roughly a decade was able to trace back 10 generations of Kings! Bruce and Mary moved back to upstate NY in early 2014, later that same year, Bruce lost his wife of 52 years to pancreatic cancer. He reunited and married his high school sweetheart, Adrienne Penno King, in 2015. Bruce is survived by his beloved wife, Adrienne Penno King; his children, Kristen Perrine and David (& Margie) King; his grandchildren, Sebastion Pitt-King, Tristan King, Brianna King, and Arin King. Uncle B is also survived by his sisters, Patricia Marciniec and Alice King, and many very beloved nieces and nephews. A funeral will be held on October 2, 2021 at Compassionate Funeral Care, 402 Maple Ave., Saratoga Springs, NY. Calling hours will be from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm. with a service at 12:30 p.m. Burial will follow at Maplewood Cemetery, Saratoga Springs, NY. A luncheon will be held after the burial. A second service will be held at the Knotty Oak Cemetery in Coventry, RI in the Spring of 2022.
