Carmen “Mel” Marie (Ciampi) Jaffarian, 87, of Dover, NH passed away unexpectedly on October 9, 2017.  Born August 25, 1930 in Lawrence, Massachusetts, she was the daughter of the late Dominic Anthony and Alfia Rita (Ferlito) Ciampi. Carmen was educated in Catholic schools in Lawrence, MA and graduated from Haverhill High School in 1947. Immediately out of high school, Carmen worked in the medical records department at Hale Hospital. She was also a medical transcriptionist as well as a secretary in the medical and banking fields. She was a working mother long before it was the norm. Carmen was predeceased by her husband Charles who passed in July, 2016. They were married for 63 years and raised three children in Plaistow, NH. Carmen is survived by the lights of her life, her three children, Michele M. Elliott, Carol A.White and Brian C. Jaffarian and their spouses. She is also survived by her sister Joan B. Bartlett, several nieces, nephews, cousins, great nieces and nephews and lifelong high school friends.
Carmen was an amazing Italian cook and even learned how to make traditional Armenian dishes. She was a gracious hostess and wanted everyone who visited to feel like family. Carmen was an avid reader, with a sharp mind and memory.  Carmen was kind, compassionate and loved by all who knew her. Her passing leaves an empty place in her family’s heart.
Carmen’s family would like to thank the staff at St. Ann’s Nursing Home and Wentworth-Douglas Hospital, Dover, NH for the love, care and compassion she received. It made her children’s lives better as well, knowing she was so well cared for.  At the wishes of Carmen, there will be no calling hours.  A funeral mass will be celebrated at a later date at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Arthritis Foundation, PO Box 3254, Manchester, NH 03105. Carmen will be interred with her husband at the New Hampshire State Veterans Cemetery at a later date.
