The Life and Legacy of Carmen Rosa “Rosita” Ramos-Garcia
Carmen Rosa “Rosita” Ramos-Garcia was born on May 12, 1957, in New York, New York, to Homero Ramos and Rosa Ramos-Garcia. Growing up in the heart of the city, she witnessed firsthand the challenges and opportunities of an ever-changing cultural landscape. Her father, a small business owner, worked hard to carve out a path in a city where making one’s mark was never easy. As a young girl, she experienced the transitions that came with growing up in a diverse and bustling metropolis, but at the age of 12, her family made the life-changing decision to move back to Puerto Rico, seeking a stronger connection to their roots.
The transition was not without challenges—Rosita would often recount stories of adjusting to island life, including the reality of using outhouses, which were still common at the time. Yet, through it all, she had the unwavering support of her five siblings, who guided and comforted her. Those years spent in Puerto Rico became the foundation of her identity, filled with love, family, and a deep appreciation for the culture of her ancestors. It was in Puerto Rico that Rosita found her passion for learning and pursued a degree in Political Science at the University of Puerto Rico in Río Piedras.
A Journey to New Beginnings
Life’s path led Rosita to new horizons when she, her husband Felix Alvarado, and their two children, Felix Manuel and Luis Enrique, made the bold decision to relocate from Puerto Rico to Orlando, Florida. Like many who embark on a journey to a new place, Rosita and Felix sought better opportunities for their growing family. Orlando, with its booming tourism industry and expanding job market, offered not only professional possibilities but also the promise of a quieter, family-centered life.
A Dedicated Career and Love for Service
Although Rosita initially tried her hand at teaching, it was in the field of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) that she found her professional calling. For over 25 years, she served with loyalty and dedication at Orange County Government, helping to shape the community through her work as a GIS Specialist. She was respected for her intelligence, diligence, and commitment to excellence, making a lasting impact in her field.
A Love Story That Spanned a Lifetime
Rosita’s love story with Felix Alvarado began in the most unexpected of places—a teachers’ lounge at Bayamón Military Academy, where she was an English instructor, and he was a military instructor. Their first date took place in San Juan, where Felix, in true teacher fashion, spent all his money buying Rosita a hamburger and fries—leaving nothing for his own meal. That simple act of selflessness would be a sign of the love and devotion that would define their relationship. Just 30 days later, Felix knew that Rosita was the woman he wanted to spend his life with, and he asked for her hand in marriage.
On March 30, 1983, they exchanged vows in Juana Díaz, Puerto Rico, and from that moment on, their journey together was one of love, laughter, and unwavering companionship. They were blessed with two sons, Felix Manuel (40) and Luis Enrique (34), who remained the center of their world.
A Heart Full of Joy and Compassion
Rosita’s presence could brighten any room. She carried an effortless joy, never taking life too seriously and always finding ways to make those around her feel heard and loved. She had an immense love for animals, speaking to them in a way that mirrored the gentle spirit of St. Martin de Porres, a saint deeply admired within her family.
Her love was never reserved—it was freely given, without judgment, and those who knew her felt the warmth of her embrace, the sincerity of her words, and the kindness that defined her spirit.
Her favorite saying, “They don’t make them any better,” was not just something she said—it was a reflection of how she saw the best in people, always lifting them up and affirming their worth.
A Life Rooted in Faith
Faith was the foundation of Rosita’s life. As a mother, she made it her mission to ensure that her children were raised in the Catholic faith, guiding them through Catechism and encouraging their spiritual growth. Every Sunday, the family attended Mass, where Rosita found comfort in the traditions of the Church and the sacred music that filled its halls.
She passed down stories of beloved saints, teaching her family the values of compassion, perseverance, and grace. For Rosita, faith was not just something to be practiced—it was a way of life, shaping how she loved, how she forgave, and how she cared for others.
Cherished Moments and Lasting Memories
Some of Rosita’s happiest moments were spent traveling, making memories with family, and playing with her granddaughter, Aria Isabella. Whether she was enjoying delicious food, dancing to music, or simply sharing laughter with her loved ones, she lived each day with gratitude and joy.
A Love That Surrounded Her Until the End
In her final days, Rosita was surrounded by love, held close by those who meant the most to her. Her husband Felix, her sons Felix Manuel and Luis Enrique, and her two devoted sisters-in-law, Marilyn and Diana, who loved her as their sister, all stood by her side.
Though she has left this world, her legacy of love, laughter, and unwavering faith remains in the hearts of all who knew her.
She was and always will be, a light that never fades.
She is survived by her husband of 41 years Felix Alvarado, and her two beloved sons Felix Manuel and Luis Enrique, his treasured wife Karina Alexandra, and their beautiful daughter Aria Isabella.
