Obituary

Carol Coleman Fuquay, 61, of New Smyrna Beach, FL, passed away on January 12, 2013. She was born on May 18, 1951 in Lakeland, FL to the late John and Cecelia Coleman.  Carol attended Sarasota High School and went on to achieve her Bachelor’s Degree at Stetson University, where she met many lifelong friends.  The majority of her working years were spent at the Daytona Beach News Journal, beginning as a photographer and retiring as a Divisional Chief Editor.  She had a love for the arts and dance, sharing her talent at the Atlantic Dance Company, Christ Community Church and many weddings. Carol was known for her selflessness, compassion, being an NSB girl and her undying dedication. She was especially dedicated to and proud of her daughters, her granddaughters and her church.  She would tell anyone that her greatest achievement was the raising of her two special daughters that are honoring her by striving to be as good a mother as she was. She served in many roles at Christ Community Church, including the finance committee, food bank volunteer, praise and worship dancer and prayer warrior.  Carol is survived by her daughters Hannah Stricklin and Sarah Fowler, her granddaughters Lily Stricklin and Julia Fowler, her brother Jeff Coleman, her sisters Trish Davis and Cathy Royal and her “News Journal Gang.”  A memorial service will be held Wednesday, January 16, 2013 at 4pm at Christ Community Church (1210 Mission Dr. New Smyrna Beach, FL 32168). Please join us to remember Carol, who had an amazing love for God, her family and her many friends.
