Obituary

Carol Jean Glaza (Ranney) was an amazing wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, daughter and friend.  She left this world on June 17, 2021 at age 79.  Her wings were ready, but our hearts were not.

She was born to Gordon and Jean Ranney on September 21, 1941 in Flint, Michigan and was raised in the beautiful town of Petoskey, Michigan.  She was an avid swimmer, water & snow skier and seamstress. She was very active in school and participated in sports, choir, band (drummer), cheerleading, glee club, pep club (president), homecoming court, quill & scroll and she was in the National Honor Society.   At age 17, she was crowned as Michigan Aqua Queen & at age 18 she was crowned the Michigan Snow Queen.  She was also the first runner up as Miss Michigan!  At 15 years old, she met a boy in high school named David Glaza and they ended up marrying when she was 18 and he was 20. They had 4 children & an incredible sixty incredible years later, Carol and David were still happy and perfect together.  They worshiped the ground each other walked on.  They moved around a bit, but ended up establishing roots in Minneapolis, Minnesota and raised 4 children.  In addition to raising 4 children, Carol also worked for Aetna as a Medical Benefits Specialist.  In 1995, they took early retirement and moved to Leesburg, Florida.  Shortly after they moved to Leesburg, they decided to take on an adventure of working for Princess Cruises at the lodges in Denali & Talkeetna, Alaska where Carol worked in human resources and her husband Dave worked security.  They loved the raw beauty of Alaska and gained several new and special friendships as a result.  A few years ago they settled in beautiful St. Augustine, Florida.  They were able to celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary on July 23rd, 2020 in St. Augustine surrounded by their children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Carol was an energetic, funny, witty, loving, smart, talented and beautiful woman.  Her family was incredibly important to her and she was a great role model for them.  She was insanely organized and she loved decorating their home, cooking, entertaining, organizing, sewing & quilting, crafting, and eating ice cream!

Carol is survived by her loving husband, David A. Glaza, her 4 children, Darci LaRose (Steven), Patrick Glaza (Carrie), Kimberly Brown (Marc) and Heidi Moore (Kenneth), plus Dawn Moullet, whom Carol lovingly referred to as “her spare kid”.  She is survived by her Grandchildren, Noah Gellerman (Melanie), Zachary Gellerman (Katie), Shelli Logan (Joe), Eve Brown (Chris) & Amanda Glaza (Cohl), her Great Grandchildren, Noel, Chloe & Carly Gellerman, Summer Schroeder, Nicole & Brayden Thompson, Levi, Nevaeh & Dean Logan, Cole LaRose and Owen Levercom. She was preceded in death by her parents, Gordon and Jean Ranney, her brother James Ranney and her two precious grandsons, Andrew Joseph Glaza and Nicolas Patrick Glaza.

A small private family memorial service will be held at a future date.

Oh, so so sad to hear of this. Carol was my "second mom" and I have such dear memories of visiting the Glaza's often during my school years. She was always welcoming. I lit a gold candle because she really had a heart of gold. My sympathies to all.
