Obituary

Carol Ann Reid, 79, of The Villages, Florida passed away on January 17, 2020, surrounded by her loving family.  Carol was born to George and Mildred Downs in Renovo, PA on Christmas Day 1940.  As a child she enjoyed many outdoor activities with her large family.  These included playing in the beautiful Pennsylvania mountains and swimming at the Dam in Memorial Park.

She graduated with the Renovo High School Class of 1958-sixty-two students strong!  She was best known for her talents as a cheerleader and the classes “Best Dancer!”  One year after graduating high school Carol moved to Harrisburg, PA to attend Thompson Business College and work for Bell Telephone, here she met and married Robert C. Reid on May 20th, 1961.  They lived in State College while Bob finished his degree in the summer of 1961.

Carol had the opportunity to relocate and live in many places while raising her family.  These included Biglerville, PA, Dover, DE, Stony Point, NY, Kankakee, IL and Danbury, CT. She was always very active in the local Presbyterian Church where she sang in the choir.  She was also able to pursue her passion for acting by participating in local theatre and realized her dream as a professional member of SAG and AFTRA.  She worked in New York City in television and movies as an extra and bit player.  Her credits include appearances on Another World, All my Children, The Guiding Light, One Life to Live, and Ghost Busters I & II.  She was most proud though of an appearance in Kramer vs. Kramer with her two children Debbie and Keith.

Carol and Bob retired to Florida in 1990 and where she continued to pursue her creative talents.  These included playing the harp, painting, line dancing, sculpting stained glass and teaching synchronized swimming.  She was also an active member of Clown Alley, number 179—known as Buttercup.

Carol loved to travel, and she and Bob were able to enjoy frequent cruising both domestically and internationally.  Her favorite destinations were Florence, Italy and Dublin, Ireland.  She was a woman of strong faith and a member of The Fairway Christian Church.  She enjoyed volunteering for Feed My Sheep at the church.

Carol is survived by her loving husband of 58 years, Robert Reid.  Her daughter, Deborah Jean Reid of Danbury, CT; and son, Kenneth Allen Reid of Northeast, PA. Five grandchildren: Kendal & Tory Deakin,  Gabbriele, Isabelle and Kasinda Reid.  Carol is preceded in death by her son, Keith Edward Reid.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
