Carol Spiegel, 83, died peacefully at home in Winter Park, Florida, on February 20, 2023. Carol was born in a log cabin in Eagle River, Wisconsin, to parents Roy and Dorothy Green. After graduating from the University of Wisconsin – Madison General School of Nursing, she worked as an R.N. for many years. Later, she took up her passion for interior design, receiving a degree from Illinois Central College. In her design career, she worked for Illinois Wesleyan University and later taught at the Boston Architectural Center.
She is survived by her husband of 43 years David Spiegel, children Kevin (Betty) Hackett, Karrie (Mark) Heartlein, and grandchildren, Thomas Heartlein and Margaret (Riley) Van Velsor. Never afraid to take on a challenge, whether it was launching a new career, sailing the Great Lakes and Atlantic, or climbing mountains, Carol and David made their life an adventure full of travel, friends, and love.
like a snowflake falling softly
on a sparkling mountainside,
begins an avalanche.
Such a moment
was when we met.
