Carolyn A. Herbert of Port Orange, was born in Elizabeth, NJ on July 5, 1931 to Robert & Naomi Theisz. She graduated from Briarcliff Junior College in Briarcliff, NY and worked as a medical assistant/secretary before retiring. She came to this area from Flemington, NJ in 1987.
Carolyn was a member of the Living Cornerstone church, Port Orange and was a past president of the Women’s Clubs in Clinton and Flemington, NJ, she also served 7 years as President of the Hunterdon County Chapter of the American Cancer Society. During her 26 years on the Board of Directors of the American Cancer Society, she served as secretary and treasurer and coordinated many of their fundraising activities.
She is survived by her daughter & son in law Nancy & Timothy Hoffman of Daytona Beach, 3 grandchildren, Ashley & Christopher Bertany and Kelly & her husband Leslie McDannel, 3 great grandchildren and her sister & brother in law, Brenda & George Bayliss. Mrs. Herbert was preceded in death by her husband, Edwin J. Herbert, son Robert E. Herbert and her sister Ruth Bayliss.
Carolyn was a volunteer at Hospice of Volusia Flagler. In 1986, the New Jersey Division of the American Cancer Society awarded her with the Silver Bowl Award for outstanding volunteer of the year. She was also named in the 1974 edition of Community Leaders and Noteworthy Americans.
