Obituary
Catherine V Porter passed away Monday, May 20, 2024, at age 98. She died following a brief hospice stay and was surrounded by her loved ones. Catherine was born in Maspeth NY, on May 15, 1926. The family resided in Flushing, Queens until 1971 when they relocated to Winter Park, Florida.
Catherine was first and foremost a wife and a mother who loved her family deeply. She worked for the New York Police Department and upon moving to Florida worked and retired from ABC liquors accounting department.
She was a classic example of those referred to as the “Greatest Generation,” a generation that thrived despite incredible hardships including the Great Depression and the Second World War. Life’s challenges were met with strength, resilience and a deep commitment to family and country.
She could be described as a woman who was “ahead of her time.” Catherine was a humble and amazingly talented woman who could do anything to which she set her mind. She was an early adopter of regular exercise and was inspired by Jack LaLanne who led her to choose and create a healthy lifestyle for herself and her family. Even at age 98 she kept pace with technology and was a proficient user of her I Phone and her MAC. She enjoyed many years of independence and was able to drive, travel and care for her home until a year before her death. Catherine enjoyed painting, swimming, reading, shopping, and spending time with her family. She was the epitome of a “strong woman” who served as a role model for her family and those who came to know and love her.
Catherine was predeceased by her husband, Charles Thomas Porter. She is survived by her sister, Delores Majeski, children, Susan (Howard) Bowne, Cathy (Brad) Breuer, Chuck Porter, Stewart (Courtney) Porter, grandchildren, Justin (Rachel) Thompson, Nicholas (Rebecca) Butts, Morgan Porter, Hunter Porter, Hailey Porter, Greyson Porter, great grandchildren, Erin Thompson, and Isabella Butts. A celebration of life is being planned and the date will be shared once available.
