Obituary
Catherine J. Smillie (Cat) of the Villages passed away peacefully, Friday 16 October 2020. Born in Pensacola, FL in 1941.
She is survived by her beloved husband of 56 years, Thomas R. Smillie, two sons Kenneth and Dennis, and Pre-deceased son Bruce.
Also by several grand children Bruce, Jamie, Josh, and Kennedy. She proudly served as a Navy Spouse for 20 years, retired as a Computer Systems Manager, and the best Home Maker.
“Cat” was an excellent chef, the warmest host who opened her door to all and served numerous memorable meals.
She was a seasoned traveler and guide, who traveled the world and enjoyed the diversity and the world’s beauty, from Rome to Gaum, from Hawaii to Iceland, she traveled…
An experienced fisherlady who was practically born and raised on the water.
A do all construction worker who not only built a family, but a warm home no matter where she was.
The drinking buddy who laughed much and understood that life is not to be taken to seriously.
A woman of principles that would not waiver, even in the very end.
But her most notable characteristic was that she was a friend to all, a true confidant whom anyone could share in trust, and without judgment.
Our matriarch truly lived her life. She came from a poor fisherman’s family and rose to paying outright for things, because she hated making payments, or owing someone.
All the while raising kids and supporting a father in his career…often performing both roles as a parent.
On top of her travels and family, she managed to keep a full time job….
We are proud of our wife, our mom, our grandma, our friend, and will always miss her smile.
Adhering to her lifelong love of the water, and respecting her wish, it is only fitting that she return to the waters from whence she came.
Her ashes will be privately spread by her family unto the Gulf of Mexico.
Until we meet again, we love you! Catherine a gift from God.
