Obituary

It is with great sorrow that the family announces the passing of Charles Bobay at the age of 71.    He passed Friday, October 30th.

Chuck was born in Sturgis, Michigan on June 26, 1949 to Robert and Alphonsa Bobay.  After completion of high school, Chuck attended and received a degree from Central Michigan University.  He later continued his education and received two masters degrees from the University of Michigan in education and urban planning. He worked for 30 years as an educator for Bendle Public Schools in Burton, Michigan teaching computer science, English, and later a high school counselor.  He also served the community in which he lived as a city council member and was elected Mayor of Linden, Michigan for 8 years.

After retiring, Chuck and his wife moved to The Villages, Florida where they have resident for the last 16 years.  Chuck enjoyed golfing, pickle ball, gathering with friends, playing games, and reading books. He organized golf leagues in The Villages and was active in his community.

Charles is preceeded in death by his brother, Ronald Bobay.  He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Dawn Bobay,  his daughter, Lindsey Bobay (John), grandson, Tucker Bobay, sister, Marilyn Mayes, and several nieces and nephews—Jonathan Mayes, Robbie Bobay, Todd Jared Bobay, Tarrah Cooper, and Megan Spurlock.

Now that Chuck is finally at rest and hopefully at peace, our family still holds him close.  We ask that all of you whose lives he has touched in a special way, also hold him close in your minds and your spirit.

Due to Covid, there will be no memorial service.  In compliance with his wishes, he will be cremated and taken to Mackinaw City, Michigan—his summer home that he loved.

Only just heard of Chuck's passing. Both Chuck and Dawn will be remembered for their careers at Bendle.
Hard to think that Chuck is gone so young. We are left with so many memories of good times and the good
kids and good staff at Bendle. May God's peace be with and abide in every member of the Bobay family.

We are sending all our love, and yes, holding Charlie close to our hearts always. Some of our most cherished memories are our families traveling, laughing, walking, swimming ....doing what families do together...with the 3 of you. Uncle Chuck I will forever cherish the memories our families have built together. The year that Aunt Dawn was pregnant with Lindsey I spent a portion of the summer with you and Aunt Dawn traveling, exploring and camping in MI. We shared many joyful memories between our families. As you join Dad, Grandpa, and Grandma we will never forget your love for your family and your giving personality. We pray for Dawn, Lindsey John and sweet baby Tucker. We love you and will never forget you!
    Love Rob Bobay

I've known Chuck over 30 years. His family always came first. I always enjoyed the spirited discussions we've had over the years. I always admired the energy level and drive he had completing projects. He had incredible woodworking skills. His tenacity in leadership and education always impressed me. During his last month or so of life I often called to bolster his spirits. I regret not connecting with Chuck more often. Marilyn is the last surviving member of the 5 unit family. Only good times are what I remember of a good friend. BEST RICH MAYES

Peace my brother. Now you join our family – Mom, Dad, and Ron. I will fondly hold close those precious phone calls we shared, laughing in the telling of stories in our immediate family in small town, Sturgis, Michigan. There’s nothing like a brother! The times we delivered newspapers, attended parochial school, hung out together with shared friends.

Your caring ways touched those of your family, students, and community. Your life made a difference.

Our last words hours before, (who was to know, your passing), is the greatest gift when we closed our phone talk and you said, “I love you too.” Somehow I know I was the last person to hear your voice.

    Goodbye my sweet, sweet brother.

    Your loving sister, Marilyn

Charlie was one of a kind. Best story I have s when both Deb and I along with Dawn and Charlie were in PEI visiting my parents. They were building the house and Charlie and I were enlisted to put on the roof. Well that required the us needing refreshments. After a while my father stated it would be cheaper to hire roofers to do the job vice keeping up with our beer consumption. To our credit the roof was finished straight and true.

I am with all of you in heart. This crazy world won’t let us grieve together so we have to do it alone. Chuck did make many impressions on many people and will not be forgotten.
RIP. I hate loosing so many of my friends and family. It makes me so sad. Things are changing and hard to get use to. Love sympathy to my family.
