Obituary

Charles R. Del Bene, Sr., 82, of Fort Myers, Florida, passed away on Friday, October 14, 2022.  Charles was born on March 27, 2940 in Yonkers, New York, son of the late Gatale (Red) and Marie Del Bene.  He was a graduate of Roosevelt High School in Yonkers, NY and became a Firefighter for the City of Yonkers, where he served and protected the City until his retirement in 1989.  Charles enjoyed coaching baseball for many years in Beacon, NY and was an avid golfer and hunter.

Charles married his beloved wife, Joanne on March 3, 1997 on Sanibel Island, Florida.  His beautiful, blended family included his four children and Joanne’s two sons.  Charles was preceded in death by his parents, Red & Marie; his first wife, Carol; sister, Virginia; son, Charles Jr; and stepson Michael.  He is survived by his wife, Joanne; his children: Tina Grover (Bret) of Hopewell Junction, NY; John Del Bene (Terri) of Monroe, NC; Terri Gleason (Tim) of Valhalla, NY; stepson Christopher Dellaporta (Andrea) of Carbondale, CO; brother John (Linda) of Hopewell Junction, NY and Daughter-in-laws: Lisa Del Bene of Beacon NY and Peyton Dellaporta of Cartersville, GA.  Charles was blessed to have twelve beautiful grandchildren and one great-grandchild as well as many extended family members.  He was dearly loved and will be missed by his family and many, many friends.

A Celebration of life will be held on November 5, 2022 at the American Legion Post 360, 5770 Bayshore Road, Fort Myers, FL from 1:00pm until 4:00pm.  All are welcome.

A private ceremony will be held by his family for a final goodbye in the Catskill Mountains, where he loved to spend time with his family and friends.

Donations may be made, in Charlie’s honor, to Shriners Hospitals for Children @ www.shrinerschildrens.org, as he was passionate about helping children.
