Obituary

Charles H. Strange, Sr. 87 of New Smyrna Beach died peacefully on Friday, August 17, 2012 at Emory L. Bennett Veterans Nursing Home.  Charles was born July 4, 1925 in Claysville, Indiana to the late Goldie and Harry Strange.  He was a veteran of the United States Navy serving on five battleships as a gunners mate during WW II.  Charles married Imah E. Wiedemer on July 9, 1946.  They moved to New Smyrna Beach in 1956 from Salem, Indiana.  Charles was a master plumber for over 40 years.  He was an active member in the First Baptist Church of New Smyrna Beach as a Deacon and Sunday school teacher for many years.  Charles enjoyed gardening and bird watching.  He was a patriotic man that loved his country and was a life member of the American Legion Post #17.  Charles was preceded in death by his daughter, Deborah Strange, ten brothers and three sisters.  He is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Imah; three children, Charles and daughter-in-law, Elaine Strange, Jr of Jacksonville, FL, JoAn Goss and Bonnie Sorensen of New Smyrna and Nancy Strange of Gainesville, FL; five grandchildren, Mitchell Elder, Nathan Elder, Lisa (Chris) Gurule, Adam Strange, and Byron (Noelia) Goss; six great grandchildren, Michael Elder, Kayla and Emma Gurule, Luke and Amelia Elder and Isabella Goss; four sisters, Bonnie Drager, Ruth Winslow, Marie Williams and Maxine Strange and his beloved dog, Peaches.  A Life Celebration will be held 3:00PM, Tuesday, August 21, 2012 at the First Baptist Church of New Smyrna Beach in the Dining Hall, 200 Falkner Avenue with a reception following.  A visitation will be held from 5-7 PM, Monday, August 20, 2012 at the Baldwin Brothers Heritage Place, 1 N. Causeway, New Smyrna Beach.  Interment will be held at Daytona Memorial Park.   In lieu of flowers the family suggest memorial donations be made to Dementia Research or Freedom Campaign at the First Baptist Church of New Smyrna Beach.    A Life Celebration will be held 3:00PM, Tuesday, August 21, 2012 at the First Baptist Church of New Smyrna Beach in the Dining Hall, 200 Falkner Avenue with a reception following.  A visitation will be held from 5-7 PM, Monday, August 20, 2012 at the Baldwin Brothers Heritage Place, 1 N. Causeway, New Smyrna Beach.  Interment will be held at Daytona Memorial Park.
