Obituary
Dr. Charles Hankins Jr. Was born in Mississippi in 1945 to Jewel And Charles Hankins. He passed away from pancreatic cancer on February 4, 2020 at Halifax Health Hospice in Edgewater, Florida. He served in the US Coast Guard from 1969-1971. Charles graduated from UAB Birmingham School of Optometry in 1976. He opened his first practice in Apopka, Florida, and shortly thereafter opened a second office in Oviedo, Florida. Charles was known for solving difficult optometric problems. Over the years he worked for several ophthalmologists in addition to maintaining his own practice.
Chuck was an avid golfer and his faithful companion Spock could often be found riding in his cart with him. He enjoyed many other hobbies as well, including pottery, working out, fishing, and attending car shows. He had restored a 1966 Mustang which was his pride and joy.
Charles was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Steve. He is survived by his wife, Cheryl, sister Jeanne, and his ever faithful companion, Spock, and cats, Millie and Bogey. He is also survived by stepdaughters Gina (Joe) McRorie, Andrea (David) Ward, and Katie (Justin) Polak, grandchildren Nicholas, Christian, Clara and Rachel, and his niece, Savannah.
A Celebration of Life will be held on March 14 at 520 on the Water in Sanford
