Obituary
Charles H. Prince. 93, lifelong resident of Somerset County,
passed away on January 23, 2018 in Tavares, FL. As the youngest
and last surviving of nine children born to Nellie T.(Fetzer) and
Harry V. Prince in Ursina. PA on December 26, 1924, he went
peacefully with God in the presence of family, including his
wife of 70 years, Catherine Jean (Enos) Prince. He is also survived
by children: Carol Kemp (David), Charles D. (Sharon) and Clyde
Jeffrey (Stephanie); numerous grandchildren; great-grandchildren;
and a large, loving. and supportive extended family. Mr. Prince was
retired from Somerset County government, having served many
years in both the Office of Recorder of Deeds and the
Somerset County Tax Assessment Office. As Past State Commander,
Pennsylvania Department Veterans of Foreign Wars and a
Life Member of both the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American
Legion, Mr. Prince was an ardent and relentless advocate for
veterans and their families. He served as a U.S. Navy Radioman First Class
00 several ships with Admiral Halsey’s staff during
World War 11, and he was proud to have been on the USS Missouri
during the signing of the treaty with Japan, September 1945. During the
Korean Conflict he was recalled to serve with the U.S. Army. Mr. Prince’s
remains are being cremated and will be returned to Pennsylvania for a
memorial service and interment of ashes at an early spring date to be
determined by the family. Announcement of the specific time will appear in
the Daily American.
