Obituary

Charles W. Mellor, 81, of Port Orange, FL, died Sunday, January 19, 2020 with his family by his side. Chuck was born February 16, 1938 in Wayne, Nebraska to Erna Baier Mellor and the late William Mellor, Jr.  He rests now having lived a full life.

Chuck served our nation in the United States Marine Corps and was proud to have served his local community as Commission Chairman of Volusia County Planning and Land Development Regulation, among other appointments. He owned and operated Cedar Creek Fish Camp in New Smyrna Beach, FL, which he later developed into Cedar Island Club Condominiums.

Chuck will be known for his smile and many rich stories. He was fiercely proud of his family but considerate of everyone and genuinely interested in the details of their story. He enjoyed traveling and was an avid photographer.  He married his highschool sweetheart and the love of his life, Judy Heinemann, on Sept. 14, 1958 and was preceded in death by her after nearly 60 years of marriage. His passing coincided with her birthday and the family takes some solace in them being together again.

Chuck is survived by his 103-year-old mother, Erna Mellor, with whom he shared a birthday; daughter, Cheryl Thomson [Dennis Austin] of Seminole, FL; two sons, Roger [Stephanie] Mellor of Eustis, FL; Kevin [Stella] Mellor of SC; & predeceased by son, Randall “Duffy” [Jacqueline] Mellor of Daytona Beach Shores, FL; 8 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.

A celebration of his life is being arranged locally. Service and interment will take place at Greenwood Cemetery in Wayne, Nebraska. Scheduling for both to be announced.  Until then, as Chuck was frequently known to say, “Keep a smile on your face and a song in your heart”.

I met Chuck first time in 1986 in Florida as a revisit his sun Roger and his wife Judy did with her parents in 1984 looking for family roots in Germany. Since this first meeting I stay in friendship to him, appreciating him as a real good guy with the heart on the right side.
Last contact we had by phone in the beginning of January 20. Evan more I feel very sadly having experienced recently that he passed away some later.

Chuck's sudden passing and illness was a shock to both Gloria and myself (Bob Wilson). Chuck and I became acquainted as territory managers at Polaris Industries around 1972. That was the beginning of a beautiful friendship that has lasted close to 50 years. He was my boss, my mentor and most of all a best friend. The wonderful times we shared as friends, couples and with his great family will never be forgotten. God speed to you, We love you!!!
