Obituary

Charles Norman Miller, Jr. 88 of Fort Myers passed away peacefully at his home on January 26, 2022.
Charles, known to family and friends as “Bud” was born in Summit, NJ on February 21, 1933, to Helen Johnson Miller. He taught Industrial Arts in the New Jersey school system for 36 years, first at Chatham High School and then at Sparta High School. Charles met his wife, Joan Garrabrant, while attending Trenton (NJ) State College. They were married 66 years.
Charles was a choir member and devoted Second Saturday volunteer at Grace Church. He was a past President of Gulf Coast Pelicans RV Club, as well as a member of the Seminoles RV Club for many years. Known as a friend to all, Charles loved traveling by motorhome with Joan. He enjoyed boating and excelled at woodworking, building three of their homes in New Jersey.
Charles was a strong and gentle soul, the rock of the family. He will be greatly missed and is survived by his wife Joan G. Miller of Fort Myers, daughters and their husbands Sandra Newcomer and the late James Newcomer, Debra and Robert Carroll, and Catherine and Christopher Sale. He was loved and known as Pops to his grandchildren Bryan Newcomer, Andrew Newcomer, Kristin Wolfe, Austin Sale, Jordan Lassiter, Kaitlin Snyder, Courtney Carroll, Allison Carroll, and great grandchildren Sadie, Dylan, Riley, Tessa, Calvin, Ian, Cameron, and Elias.
A memorial service, honoring and celebrating Charles’ life, will be held this spring in Frankford, New Jersey. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Grace Church Fort Myers Shores, 14036 Matanzas Drive, Fort Myers, FL 33905. Please reference “Second Saturday”.
