Obituary
Charles (Chuck) passed away following a long illness while receiving remarkable care at the Douglas T Jacobson State Veteran Nursing Home on April 30, 2024.
Chuck was the firstborn of Audie and Thurman Templeman in Yell County Arkansas. At the age of 16 he left home and found work in the oilfields of CA. In 1957 Chuck enlisted in what turned out to be his career, the US Army. During a tour in Germany he competed in the USAREUR Team rifle matches. Returning stateside he completed jumpschool at Ft. Benning GA. He relocated to Ft. Bragg, NC with the 82nd Abn and was a member of the Third Army Rifle and then the All Army Rifle Team. He was awarded the Distinguished Rifleman Badge earned with points won. His tour in Viet Nam was 1965-66 with the 1st Cav. There he volunteered as gunner on a Helicopter feeling safer in the air. After a 3 year tour in Italy, he retired to Beaverton Michigan.
His work continued as maintenance or bowling alley mechanic to supplement income. Still he found time for his true love, the golf course, as long as his body was able. Camping was also a source of joy for him. Every September he was eager to camp at St Ignace with many dear friends to take part in the Labor Day Bridgewalk. He was a member of Prince of Peace Lutheran in Clare MI. In Florida he was a member of Trinity Lutheran, Lake Placid.
Charles was predeceased by his parents, two sisters-Charlene & Anna, and two brothers-Troy & Bobby. He is survived by his wife, Verna of Sebring FL, one sister-Darlene & Neil Lauberth of Freeburg MO. One brother, Dwayne, is unknown. He also leaves behind three sons: Charles of Sanford MI, Richard & Mickki of Coleman MI , and Nathan of Saginaw MI along with Five grandsons.
A burial with full military honors will be held on Tuesday, May 7, 2024 at 9:00AM at the Sarasota National Cemetery.
