Obituary
Charles William Walker Sr, was born October 1, 1939 in Springfield, IL.
Charles “Charlie”, also known as “Sonny”, peacefully
went to be with the Lord on Monday, October 23rd, 2023.
He was a resident of Spring Lake Health and Rehab in Winter Haven for the past 8 months whereby he had been battling several health issues.
Charlie graduated from Feitshen’s High School in Springfield IL. After graduation, he went on to work for Schnepp and Barnes Printers Inc.
In 1963 he married the love of his life, Sally Kuster.
They had two children Charles Jr, “Chuck”, and Michelle.
In 1969, they moved to Pinellas Park, Florida, where Charles worked for the Tampa Tribune; worked at his own landscaping, printing, and house painting business; and worked in Real Estate for about 30 yrs.
In 2014, he moved to Apopka, FL to reside with his son and daughter-in-law. In Apopka, he found a new job that soon became his dedication and love, that being a school crossing guard for the city. He truly enjoyed getting to know the little scholars along with their parents.
Charlie was predeceased by his parents, his wife Sally and sister June Howard.
He is survived by his sisters Barbara Houck, Marilyn Jean Zick(Jim) and children Kari Tijerino (Yoni), Chuck Walker (Veronique) and Michelle Patrick (Raymond); grandchildren Kira, Dante, Brittani Nieves(Alberto), Tyler; great grandchildren Jayden, Alexander, Eli and multiple cousins, nieces and nephews
Charlie will be remembered by many for his passion to mentor and help others, especially in his personal journey of being a member of AA with fifty years of sobriety. He enjoyed rabbit hunting, fishing, and cast netting. He was a member of the Shriners, and also, could often be found volunteering at voting polls. He enjoyed spending time with his great grandchildren.
All who knew him will fondly remember his love for a good steak, cherries and a slice of pecan pie that always brought a smile to his face.
