Obituary
Charlotte Besse, 43, a resident of New Smyrna Beach, FL, Passed away on October 6, 2017 at home with her two boys and husband at her side. Charlotte had battled terminal stage 4 Melanoma for four years. Charlotte had relentlessly battled with immense fortitude to the very last minute of her life. Charlotte was born in Bakersfield California on September 3, 1974 to parent’s Bill and Dianne Lingeman. Brother Jim Lingeman and sister Theresa Loveall.
Charlotte was a Grand Bethel sister who had made life long friends and adventures while traveling the western United States. Charlotte graduated in 1992 from Highland High School in Bakersfield California. In 2005, Charlotte graduated from California State University with her Bachelor of Science degree in Biology.
After receiving her biology degree, Charlotte worked for Bolt House Farms as a research and development engineer for several years before transitioning to the Florida Department of Citrus as an agricultural scientist. Charlotte then found her calling and passion as an educator. She taught science and biology for 2 years at Pine Ridge High School before finding her second family at Silver Sands Middle School where she taught for eight years.
Charlotte’s larger than life excitement to teach and watch her students grow intellectually and as people made her proud to be a teacher, and was her joy. In 2010, Charlotte was one of several science / biology teachers selected from within the U.S. and accepted into NASA’s Space and rocket center in Huntsville Alabama where she completed an educator’s space camp. During the summers in between school years, Charlotte worked at Florida State University instructing other educators on how to more effectively teach science and biology in the classroom.
For the 2013 – 2014 school year, Charlotte was awarded Silver Sands Middle School (Port Orange, Florida) teacher of the year. In 2014, Charlotte was invited to participate in the development of NASA’s and NOAA’s G.O.E.S-R weather satellite, where she contributed to the development of it’s practical applications in the classroom.
Charlotte is survived by her husband Dominic of 12 years, and their two son’s, Aidan and Morgan. Charlotte’s funeral service will be held on October 23rd 2017 at 1100am at Sacred Heart Catholic Church located at 998 Father Donlon Dr, New Smyrna Beach, FL, 32168. Following mass, we will be having an open house “sending off / celebration of life” party at Outriggers located at 200 Boatyard St, New Smyrna Beach, FL 32169. All family and friends are welcome to come by anytime between 12:30pm to 4:30pm.
