Obituary
SCHWAN, Charlotte Joyce, age 91, recently of Ft. Myers, Florida, passed away Friday, November 17, 2023. She was a longtime resident of Center Line, Michigan, and graduated from Lincoln High School, in Warren, Michigan, in 1950. She was a member of several Lutheran churches throughout her life, notably Trinity and Peace Lutheran in Warren, Michigan, and Faith Lutheran, Sebring, Florida. She served in various capacities in each congregation for many years. Since 2018 when she moved to North Fort Myers, Florida to be near family, she joined St. Michael Lutheran Church in Ft. Myers, Florida where she was a member of the Ladies’ Bible Study. Many people who knew her have remarked that she was a woman of great faith who loved her Savior and Lord, Jesus Christ, very much. Normally a quiet person, if you wanted to talk about the Bible or matters of faith, Joyce would suddenly become outgoing and talkative. She loved to talk about Jesus!
She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Charlotte Bowie, and her husband of 61 years, David Schwan.
She is survived by three children and their spouses, Paul and Sue Schwan, Brian and Teri Schwan, and daughter Kathy and her husband Dhanaraj Paul. Joyce was blessed with five grandchildren: Tim Schwan, son of Paul and Sue, and his wife Julie; Sarah Goodman, daughter of Brian and Teri, and her husband, Dave; Renee, Amy, and Trevor Schwan, children of Brian and Teri; and five great-grandchildren: Bennett and Emma Goodman; Andrew, Jacob, and Morgan Jo Schwan.
A memorial service will be held at St. Michael Lutheran Church, 3595 Broadway, Ft. Myers, Florida at 10:30 am on Thursday, January 18, 2024. For those out of town, you can watch the livestream at https://livestream.com/smlcs/events/2059157. Her cremains will be interred at the National Cemetery in Sarasota, Florida.
The family would like to express thanks to Best Care Senior Living in Punta Gorda where Joyce lived for a short time until she went into Tidewell Hospice House in Port Charlotte, Florida. Both of these facilities and their staff members cared for Joyce lovingly before her death. The family wishes to thank them for their service and support.
Baldwin Brothers Funeral & Cremation Society, Fort Myers is entrusted with final care.
