Obituary

Elaine Granger passed away in Port Charlotte, Fl surrounded by her children and hospice care on Thursday, January 6th, 2022 at the age of 75. She was preceded in death by her husband Ron Easton Wikoff, son Jeffrey Scott Granger, and sister Shelly Sanford.

Elaine was born Cheryl Elaine House on October 28th, 1946 in Syracuse, NY. She moved to Ohio as a young girl, only to return to Syracuse where she spent her childhood years with her parents Pauline & Harold, and sisters, Ginnie , Bonnie & Shelly. The family lost Harold when Elaine was only 13 and Pauline stepped up and carried on raising her 4 young daughters with strength and courage. Pauline then met and married Bill Brackenbury, a loving man who became a supportive and loving step father and grandfather to many grandchildren.

Elaine met and married Les Granger in 1962 and settled in Auburn, NY to begin their family. They had three children, Mark, Jeffrey and Kelly. The years were spent sharing time with extended family members. They enjoyed large holiday meals together surrounded in chaos, craziness and laughter. Holidays were especially important. Halloween & Easter were favorites and she went all out to decorate. Easter was filled with a special easter egg hunt that included the adults throwing quarters in the lawn for the kids to find. Halloween featured Elaine’s famous Hot Toddies: handed out to all the parents in the neighborhood out trick or treating with their children.

One of her greatest achievements was in 1985. Elaine, along with her daughter Kelly, moved to pursue the warm sun and salty sea air of Port Charlotte,Florida. It was in Florida that she met Ron Wikoff, a local school administrator and jockey. They soon married and spent their time with family & friends at the beach and entertaining poolside at their home. She enjoyed silk flower arrangement and worked at a local boutique where she was able to pursue her passion.

Elaine was a bright light to all who knew her. She will be remembered as someone who was always eager to help those in need. She loved her family and friends fiercely and would do anything for them. Elaine will be remembered for her sharp wit and she had a gift of making everyone feel special & the most important in her world.
Left to cherish her memory are her sisters, Bonnie Prusky of Elyria, OH and Ginnie Thorpe of Egan, MN, her son, Mark (Michele) Granger of Liverpool, NY and daughter, Kelly (Ben) Shapiro of High Point, NC. Her grandchildren & great grandchildren, the many extended family members and friends who loved her.

We were friends since our early teens. Close friends. This loss cuts deep.
My heart goes out to Kelly and Mark who have undergone many hardships over the last several months.
My appreciation goes out to those who provided care.
Elaine's passing affects us all. There is peace in knowing she lives on in our hearts. I will always miss, mourn and love my dear friend.
