Obituary

Christiane Werner Snyder 91, passed away on October 21, 2023 at Halifax Hospice Port Orange, Florida with her loving husband by her side.

Chris was born Oct. 1, 1932 in Reading, Pa. to Fritz and Erna (Fichtner) Werner. The family moved to Germany in 1938, and she came of age there during World War II. She returned to this country after the war. She married the love of her life, Lester James Snyder on Aug. 30, 1952.

Chris was the consummate hostess and surprise-giver and never forgot a birthday or anniversary. She carried her German roots through her cooking, music selections and her collection of wooden figurines from the Erzgebirge region of East Germany. She was an accomplished seamstress, sewing everything from jams for her boys, to matching mother-daughter dresses, to pleated drapes and clever catch-alls.

She and Les raised their family in Orlando. They collected many friends over the years through bridge games, church and neighborhood cookouts. Les and Chris traveled the USA in their various campers, sometimes by themselves but often in the company of the Old Farts, a close group of friends. They also traveled extensively through Europe, including two years when Les worked as a consultant in Zurich, Switzerland. Always there was a photo album to document the adventure.

Chris is survived by her husband of 71 years Lester, daughter Diana (Patrick, deceased) Faherty, sons Ronald (JoLynn) Snyder, Carl (Angela) Snyder; grandchildren Lucas (Amber) Snyder, and Michelle (Danny) Tipton; two Great grandchildren (and a third on the way); sister Hilda (Tom) Bennett, brother John (Margaret) Werner. She is predeceased by her parents and a brother, Fred Werner.

A private memorial will be held for family and friends. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, alz.org.

Instead of flowers, the family would prefer if you would make a donation to

Peace be with you during this time. My sister and I always had fond memories visiting Chrystal and Lester in Florida. A highlight of our childhood. We looked forward to every trip - Disney, swimming, and boating. She truly was an amazing hostess and had the best sense of humor. We always knew we would have great fun during spring break along with having fabulous food. My Dad treasured his friendship with your family!

    Take care and god bless,

    Linda and Renae Barlieb
our father Will was a cousin of Lester

Dear Les and family, our thoughts and prayers are with all of you during this time of saying goodbye to Chris. She was the one holding the family together through all these years. There always was an open door for family get togethers. We have so many wonderful memories of shared laughter and fun because of Chris. With much love John and Margret
