Obituary
Christie Sorkin (affectionately known as Chris) was born in Boston and grew up in Centerville, MA on Cape Cod. She retired in Groveland, Florida in 2005 and moved to Clermont, Florida in 2012. With the support of her loving husband, Eric, she bravely battled Alzheimer’s for almost a decade.
She was cherished by many, especially by her husband of 37 years, Eric Sorkin. Their love for each other was evident in everything they did, from traveling the world on cruises to spending quality time with family. Chris and Eric married on New Year’s Eve in 1987 and celebrated their anniversary each year at New Year’s parties. They lived all over the country before retiring to Florida.
Once Alzheimer’s took away her ability to travel, she found joy in her fur baby, Bree, who was by her side from morning until night.
Chris is survived by her beloved husband, Eric Sorkin, and her children: daughters Traci (husband Christopher) and Tammi, and sons Ian (wife Renee) and Adam. She was the proud grandmother of six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Chris was pre-deceased by her parents, John (Robert) and Dorothy Cannon. She is survived by three siblings: Linda (Gail), Robert (Drew), and Jeff. She was also preceded in death by two of her siblings, Robert (Scott) and Richard (Rick).
Despite the challenges of Alzheimer’s, Chris maintained her spirit, her special smile, her laughter, and her deep love for her family. Over the last three years of her brave battle, Chris was blessed with the care of Karen, a wonderful aide who became her best friend. Together, they shared morning walks, car rides, poolside singing sessions, and weekly lunches with Chris’ close group of girlfriends. On weekends, Sandy continued to provide excellent care for Chris.
One of Chris’ greatest joys in recent years was spending time with her great-grandson, Carter. They spent countless hours on FaceTime, with Chris watching Carter play and trying to learn how to play Pokémon.
Chris will be dearly missed by her husband, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and all of her friends. We take comfort in knowing that she is now reunited with her parents and that she will be lovingly cared for once again by her father, whom she deeply adored.
My thoughts and prayers are with you in this time of sorrow.
God bless Christie
