Obituary
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Christopher Joseph Sullivan of Ormond Beach, Florida, who left us prematurely on May 7, 2024. He was 60 years old.
Chris, as he was called by friends and family, was born on June 8, 1963, to Mrs. Carol Virginia (LeHardy) Martin of Ormond Beach, Florida and to Mr. Thomas Ronald Sullivan (Deceased) of Takoma Park, Maryland.
Christopher was born and raised in Silver Spring, Maryland. He had four brothers, Thomas Sullivan (Deceased) of Deland, Florida. Charles Takounakis of Silver Spring, Maryland (Deceased), George Takounakis of Silver Spring, Maryland, Ian Lazarus of Takoma Park/ Silver Spring, Maryland and one sister, Liza Takounakis- Zarou of Silver Spring, Maryland.
Christopher moved to Ormond Beach, Florida as a teenager where he fell in love with the weather, the beach, and surfing, and never left. He also enjoyed fishing and loved cats. His family called him the “cat whisper” because he never met a cat he didn’t like or that wouldn’t approach him. It came very naturally for him.
Christopher was physically fit and an avid cyclist. He didn’t own a car but rode his bike to work back and forth every day at 60 years old. Christopher was a simple person. He believed in being a minimalist, he was introverted and had few friends, but many who loved him. For those of us who knew him and worked with him, Chris was always happy and smiling. He was a very kind and loving person.
Christopher earned his living as a maintenance worker. In his early years, he worked in a multitude of hotels up and down A1A in the Ormond Beach and Daytona area. As he grew older, he was able to take a position in maintenance at the super Wal-Mart in Ormond Beach, Florida, where he worked for over 12 years with the maintenance crew. Christopher survived the pandemic and was considered essential personnel at Wal-Mart where he worked full-time the entire time through the pandemic.
Once we all became eligible for vaccinations, Christopher departed Wal-Mart and joined the wonderful Crew and Family over at the local Cracker Barrel. At the time of Christopher’s death, he was employed full time with Cracker Barrel, where he was respected and loved. He enjoyed working with the dishwasher’s, cooks, waiters, waitresses, and management team, and stated it brought him sociability and purpose.
Per the family’s wishes, Christopher was cremated, and his ashes were scattered at several of Chris’ favorite locations where he held the fondest memories i.e. The Flagler Pier, the beaches of Ormond Beach, and his favorite fishing hole on the river.
Services were held on May 22, 2024, at Baldwin Brothers Funeral Home in Ormond Beach, Florida. On behalf of our entire family, we’d like to thank the family and crew at the Cracker Barrel for hosting the Mercy Meal at their Restaurant for all of Christopher’s family and friends.
