Obituary
Clara Louise Burgdorff Fowler 84, of Daytona Beach, Florida passed away peacefully on Wednesday June 22, 2016. She was born in Ocala, Florida on April 3, 1932 to the late William and Marjorie Burgdorff. She was predeceased by her loving husband (Harland) Wade Fowler, Jr. whom she married on February 1, 1953 in Ocala, Florida. They are survived by their three children William (Medina) Fowler, Anne (Chris) Flaggs and John (Catherine) Fowler, three granddaughters Jessica (Doug) Pauselius, Amy Flaggs and Colleen Fowler, two great grandchildren Nate and Bridgette, her two sisters Carolyn and Helen (Larry) and many loving relatives and dear friends.
Clara grew up in Florida and Bristol, New Hampshire. She graduated from Ocala High School in 1949 and went on to earn degrees from the University of Florida and Maryland. She taught science and health in various High Schools. As an Army wife, she lived in many places including South Carolina, Texas, Illinois, Maryland, Japan, Germany and Florida. While in Maryland, her passion for flowers sparked and she started her journey as a flower arranger with the National Altar Guild in D.C. When Wade retired, the family moved to Daytona and Clara led the flower guilds at Grace and later at St. Mary’s Episcopal churches. She loved gardening, teaching others to arrange flowers, summers in New Hampshire at the lake cottage, swimming, hiking, boating and volunteering as a Docent at the N.H Science Center.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at St Mary’s Episcopal Church, Daytona Beach on Saturday, July 9 at 2:00 pm. Interment will follow later at Arlington National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St Mary’s Episcopal Church, Halifax Humane Society, or a charity of your choice.
