Obituary

On October 20th, 2022, Curtis Dean Williams, a beloved husband, father, brother, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loved ones. Curt was 74.

Curt was born to Jack and Lee Williams on October 31st, 1947, in Scottsbluff, Nebraska. He Graduated from Hinkley High School, Aurora, CO, in 1965. After graduating HS, he Joined the Navy – serving in the Vietnam War as a Helicopter Combat Aircrewman participating in numerous rescue missions and was awarded the: National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with one Bronze Star, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Air Medal, and Meritorious Unit Commendation.

After two tours in Vietnam and Honorably Discharged, Curt moved to Denver, Colorado to attend Metro State College where he Graduated with a degree in Criminal Justice. In 1971 Curt became a police officer with the Denver Police Department. Six months into his police career, Curt met Sharon Annette O’Donnell and the two were married in June of 1972. Curt and Sharon raised five boys and celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary this past June.

After 33 years with the Denver Police Department, Curt retired, in 2004, as the Front Range Narcotics Task Force Commander.  Curt and Sharon moved to the Western Slope, Cedaredge, CO, where he served as the Agent-in-Charge for the Colorado Bureau of Investigation’s western Colorado field office. After over 40 years of law enforcement experience, Curt retired and taught at the local Police Academy – teaching was his true passion.

Curt enjoyed his retirement! He golfed, played poker with friends regularly, fished, and was an avid bourbon drinker and reader.  He also loved learning and playing the guitar. Curt and Sharon traveled all over the US and visited numerous historic sites, vineyards, the Bourbon Trail, and enjoyed each other’s company. Their final Adventure was moving to Ormond Beach, Florida. Where curt enjoying the warm weather, cool beaches, boating, and fishing on the pier.

Curt was a one-of-a-kind man. He always found a way to make people laugh, and was the pinnacle of a friend, husband, father, and grandfather.

Curt is survived by his wife, Sharon Williams; his sons, Jeremy, Matt, Jimmy, Mike, and Jack; his sister, Jackie Lusso; and six grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at Our Father Lutheran Church, 6335 S. Holly St, Centennial, Co 80121, on December 2, 2022 at 10:30 AM.

Memorial contributions may be directed to the American Lung Association to help find a cure for Alpha 1 and COPD.

    I lost track of Curt a few years back, but always cherish having worked with him at the RMHIDTA FRTF. Curt was not only an incredible law enforcement professional but, more importantly, a great friend and colleague! Rest easy my friend.
