Obituary

Cynthia (Cindy) Elliott Black, age 72, passed away with her family by her side on November 13th, 2022, in Daytona Beach, Florida. She is survived by her daughter, Christi Kotwica, son-in-law, James Kotwica, granddaughters, Brooke and Alexis Kotwica, sister, Roberta Elliott Bowie, brother-in-law, Ralph Harrell. Cindy was born on April 28th, 1950 in Salisbury, Maryland to parents Asoline Smoak and Calvin Elliott. She received her Bachelor of Nursing degree from the University of South Carolina and her Master’s Degree from the Medical University of South Carolina. She worked as a Psychiatric Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner at the Department of Veteran Affairs for 20 years before retiring. Cindy was a charismatic woman with an eye for creativity and detail. She spent her time playing Mahjong with friends, hand crafting beautifully intricate cards for loved ones, and laughing at reality TV shows with her daughter, Christi, and dog, Little Bit. She will be remembered as an independent and empowered woman with the kindest heart and undying ability to care for others. Cindy wished for any donations to be made to the Center for Women Veterans, an organization she assisted in developing while working for the VA.
