Obituary
Cyrus Blanchard Porter, Jr., 87 of The Villages passed away Wednesday, January 5, 2022. Mr. Porter was born August 11, 1934, in Carnegie, PA to Cyrus Blanchard Porter, Sr. and Margaret (Newton) Porter. He moved to The Villages in 2016 from Washington, PA. Cyrus Porter, Jr. is survived by his children, Daniel & Jill (Barth) Porter of Amherst OH and Linda (Porter) & Dallas Edmiston of The Villages FL; sister Donna Lee (Porter) & Richard English; grandchildren Patrick Porter, Ian & Brittany Porter, Sean Porter, Jeremy & Florence Edmiston, and Jason Edmiston; great grandchildren Amelia Edmiston, Noah Edmiston, and Eta Porter. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 57 years, Ruth Ann (Schafer) Porter; and his brother, Larry Porter (surviving spouse Arleen).
Mr. Cyrus B. Porter, Jr. served in the United States Air Force 1952 – 1956 as an Air Traffic Controller. He graduated from the FAA Academy, Oklahoma City in 1957 and worked as an Air Traffic Controller at the Greater Pittsburgh International Airport until his retirement in 1985. After retirement and while living in Washington, PA he operated his own business, the Porter Christmas Tree Farm from 1986 to 2015. Cy was also a talented woodworker and an active volunteer member of the Pennsylvania Civil Air Patrol (CAP) before his move to Florida in 2016. Cy was a great family man and loving father who never hesitated to extend a helping hand to family and friends alike. He was a man of faith and an active member of the Faith Presbyterian Church.
The family held a private ceremony to celebrate his life on January 9, 2022. A brief memorial service and interment will be in the Florida National Cemetery on January 31, 2022, at 2:30 PM with a reception to follow. Please RSVP to Dan or Linda. Absolutely loved his smile…and so did everyone else! He was a special man - devoted to those he loved.
Cy’s will be greatly missed. But I look forward to seeing him again soon. What a day that will be!
