Obituary

Dale Edward “Ed” Croy, Jr. of Melbourne passed into God’s mercy on September 12, 2023 at Advent Health Winter Park following an automobile accident. Ed was born on March 15, 1958 in Tallahassee, Florida to Dale and Angie Croy. He grew up in Florida, Washington State, and Arkansas.

After high school Ed served in the US Air Force, and remained fiercely patriotic. He was a graduate of Lively Vocational-Technical College, Tallahassee, in their Laser Optics program. He worked for nearly 45 years in the Laser industry, the last 14 years in the Applied Research Lab at Florida Institute of Technology. In recent months he took on a new role at the university in the Center for Advanced Manufacturing and Innovative Design (CAMID). Ed was excited about his work in his new challenging position.

An accomplished guitarist, Ed wrote and played his own music. He held a black belt in Taekwondo. At one time, Ed held the Florida off-shore windsurfing speed record. Ed was also a published author of a graphic novel. But perhaps the love of his life was his dedication to pet rescue. Over the years he adopted many rescue whippets and greyhounds including his beloved Daisy who survives him.

Ed was preceded in death by his father, Dale E. Croy, Sr. of Tallahassee, FL. He is survived by his mother, Angie Croy of Destin, FL and his stepmother, Linda Croy of Tallahassee, FL and his 5 siblings: Paul L Croy (Suely), Port Saint Lucie, FL; Lisa (Croy) Fulmer (Timothy), Destin, FL ; LeAnne (Croy) Chrischilles (Brad), Jacksonville, FL ; Dale E Croy, III (Amy) Daphne, AL; John David Croy (Mitsy), Woodville, FL; and his beloved nieces and nephews as well and numerous treasured friends.

Expressions of sympathy may be submitted to Baldwin Brothers Funeral Home, Winter Park.

Ed, the world just is not the same without you in it. You will be terribly missed, and it breaks my heart that we did not manage to finish the story we were both working on, just as you were working on with others. You taught me when it was wise to hold my tongue and when to share my voice with the world. Hope I can continue doing that and make you proud. Now who am I going to tease about kilts (or skirts) and matchbox sized bikes? I will keep the light on for Alice.

    My dearest brother,
They say we mourn the most for those that we have loved the most that is why the loss is so painful.
You represent the beginning of the Croy kids. You coined the phrase “Jingle Belles” to our great grandma. I have many memories growing up of you and was an awe of all your accomplishments!
I am angry you had to die! And I will have to sort through that with God. You didn’t have to. Many people say “your number was up” or “it was your time”. Maybe so. But I do know as you gave your heart to Christ you are in Paradise with our dad and our grandparents and no more suffering and you have a strong heart now.
Is the rainbow bridge nearby? With all our fur babies that has gone before you? If so, what a beautiful sight that was for you!
You were such a peaceful person who accomplished so much!
I love you and I miss you, I miss knowing you’re no longer south of me. I miss knowing you’re no longer doing what you loved.
    little sis, LeAnne

Dear friends and loved ones. I am receiving many inquiries about Ed. It was his desire that no service be held, and we are going to honor that. I have also had many inquiries about Miss Daisy. I was blessed to find her a new home with a loving family. This was facilitated by a dear lady named Janet at Adoptable Greyhounds of Florida. Some of you have asked about making a charitable donation in Ed's name. AGoF.org is a 501(c)3 organization if you'd like to donate, I'm sure Ed would love that. Thank you for the outpouring of love and support you have shown our family.
    Paul Croy
