Obituary

Dale Edward Kroft, age 75 of Fort Myers, Fl., passed away on December 29, 2024 after a valiant battle with pancreatic cancer. Dale was born on June 12, 1949, to Edward & Eleanor Kroft of Cleveland, Oh.

 

Dale is survived by his wife, Joanne Doctor-Kroft, and sons, Gregory (Melissa) of North Royalton, Oh and Douglas (Katie) of Northfield Center, Oh. Dale will be greatly missed by his grandchildren: Edison, Ava, Paige (Bill), Gaige, Bayne, and great-grandchildren: Elaina, Luka, and Oaklee. Dale is also survived by his former wife and the mother of his two sons, Carolyn Raftery-Virzi of Ohio, four siblings: Allen (Lucy) Kroft of Maine, Adrianne (Tom) Beitl of Florida, Jean Melzer of Georgia, and Paul (Noreen) Melzer of Ohio. Dale was also an uncle to eleven nieces and nephews, cousin to many, and friend to many more.

 

Dale was preceded in death by his parents Edward & Eleanor Kroft and Dorothy Kroft. He was a graduate of John Marshall High School, Class of 1967. After graduation, he embarked on a 34-year- long career with the Ohio Bell Telephone Company. After retiring in 2001, he relocated to Fort Myers, Florida.

 

Dale enjoyed spending his retirement golfing and fishing with friends. Dale was nicknamed “The Commish” by his golfing buddies because he ran their regular golf league. He and Joanne also ran a home-watch business within their community. Dale was always willing to lend a hand to neighbors and friends. He was an avid dog lover and spoiled his beloved pets: Riley, Bentley, and most recently, Lolita.

 

A service will be held on Friday, January 31, 2025 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Columbkille Catholic Church, located at 12171 Iona Rd. Fort Myers, Florida. Interment ceremony to directly follow the mass located onsite at the St. Columbkille Memorial Garden. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Golden Retriever Rescue of Southwest Florida at www.grrswf.org.
