Obituary

Daniel Preston Burns

6/19/1968-7/15/2021

It is with deep sorrow and much love that we mourn the passing of Daniel Preston Burns of Fort Myers, Fl. on July 15th, 2021, at the age of 53. Daniel passed away peacefully at Moffitt Cancer Center in Tampa, Fl. following a long and courageous battle with cancer.

Daniel was preceded in death by his parents, Zane and Patsy Burns. He is survived by his sister, Anne Marie Burns and his brother, Zane Andrew Burns Jr. He will be dearly missed by his girlfriend of eleven years, Wendy Anne and her family.

Daniel grew up in Hampton, Va. He graduated from Hampton High school. After high school, he attended Averett University, where he received a master’s degree in Divinity.

Daniel was a Christian and dedicated his life to helping others. Throughout his life, he worked several ministry jobs to include campus minister, youth minister, church minister, and counselor. The last eight years of his life were spent as a Hope Hospice Chaplin. Daniel was called to a life of ministry. It was his gift to the world. He was always willing and available to be there for others, especially through hard times. He was friendly, compassionate, and such a good listener. He was very emotionally supportive to anyone who crossed his path and needed it. He was always kind and gentle to others, smiled and acknowledged everyone, and always returned his shopping cart.

Daniel had many hobbies. He loved to play golf and go on golf trips with his friends. He was very adventurous. He loved nature, the mountains, waterfalls, and hiking. He loved to travel to beautiful places (especially Utah) and take pictures. He had an eye for the camera and was a great photographer. He loved music, especially U2 (his favorite band) and enjoyed playing his guitar in his free time. He also enjoyed going to baseball games. His favorite team was the Washington Nationals. He loved and had a big heart for animals, especially his cats, and considered them family.

Daniel was a blessing to anyone who met him. His kindness, compassion, and courageous, adventurous spirit will never be forgotten and will live in our hearts forever.
