Obituary
The Villages, formerly of Tomkins Cove
DANIEL R. SCISCENTE 1931-2020
Daniel R. Sciscente passed away peacefully in The Villages, Florida on December 11, 2020.
He was born August 22, 1931 in the Bronx, N.Y. where he spent his youth and loved to play the drums.
He joined the Navy after high school where he played drums in the band during the Korean
War. After leaving the Navy, he studied and earned his Masters at Manhattan School of Music to
become a music teacher, while playing in bands to pay the bills. He became a music teacher and taught
in the Bronx and later in Rockland County after moving his family there for a better life. He was known
to his children and grandchildren as the greatest teller of corny teacher jokes after which many eyes
would roll. He continued to play drums in bands on the weekends, usually in The Swing Machine,
because he loved big band music. After retiring, he lived in Tomkins Cove with his wife Pat (DeSpagna)
and taught band part time at Immaculate Conception Church School in Stony Point where he was also a
Eucharistic Minister. He and his wife Pat moved to The Villages in Florida 15 years ago, where they
enjoyed their warm winters and active lifestyle. He continued to play drums in The Villages swing band.
He was a good husband, continuing to get his wife breakfast every morning. He will be deeply missed.
He was a devoted husband and survived by his loving wife Pat (DeSpagna) and his loving children Steven
Sciscente (Sonia), Cecelia Sciscente, Matthew Sciscente, Christopher Sciscente (Gina), Daniel Sciscente
(Carol) and Jennifer Sciscente (Jim Toscano). He is also survived by 11 grandchildren and 5 great
grandchildren. His seven stepchildren also enjoyed his company and treated him with great love, for
which we are thankful. He was predeceased by his parents Daniel and Marguerite Sciscente and his two
sisters, Marguerite and Diane.
A mass will be scheduled in The Villages in the coming year. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can
be made to Tunnels to Towers.
