Obituary

Daniel Wayne (Dan) Vermillion, son, brother, uncle and friend.   Dan passed away April 18, 2021 at the age of 56.

Dan was a graduate of James Wood High School in Winchester, VA where he was an avid member of the marching band playing the saxophone.  Dan worked in the hospitality and restaurant business his entire career starting as a dishwasher and working his way up to server, cook and general manager with amazing teams at places like Jimmy’s, Ground Round, The Peabody and Steak & Ale.

Dan had many friends in Virginia, Maryland and Florida, anyone who knew him, loved him.  He was selfless, kindhearted and would drop what he was doing in order to help a friend, family member, and even a stranger in need.  He put a smile on your face in a matter of seconds.

Dan will be cremated and his ashes will be spread across the Shenandoah Valley in Virginia, the place he called home and cherished the most. He is so loved and will be missed by so many.

Memorial service will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church at 810 Fairfax Street in Stephens City, VA on Saturday, May 8th, 2021 at 11:00AM (in accordance with COVID-19 protocols).   In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Trinity Lutheran Church in Stephens City, VA, ASPCA or another charity of your choice in Dan’s honor.

There's way to. Much to say about Dan to even know where to start. We laughed together and cried together. Spike to him few days before his death and it drvistated me. He had such a sweet spirit. I'll never forget him.

Truly one of the kindest people I have ever met. Thank you for your friendship. I hope we can meet again on the front porch of that cabin deep in the woods for a glass of wine.

Danny, you my friend first, housemate second and then my brother. We were family before we were family. I remember all the craziness of us working together at Grafton and then later at the Ground Round. We had some crazy times and lots of laughs. I can still see you "practicing" Madonna's Vogue for a revue over in Hagarstown. The sarcasm in this world will never recover from your loss...you could always make me laugh. I remember all our cats...we were such cat folks back then and you remained that way. Fly with the angels Danny...You and Alyssa will have lots to talk about...Kiss and hug her for me. Rest in peace my friend.

We were family before we became family. The craziness of working at the Ground Round...late late nights. I will remember the laughter, the tears and the friendship. I will remember how much we laughed when you were "practicing" to perform Madonna's Vogue for a revue. All our cats! of being tired of looking at our apartment and just completely rearranging everything! I will miss you Danny...the sarcasm in this world will never recover from your loss. Love you.

    Dan,
You will be so missed, this makes me so sad. We had some really fun times back in the day, I’m so glad we stayed in touch through the years, you were my favorite neighbor and always made me smile.
