Darla Jeanne Knoll passed away on Saturday November 26th 2022. Darla was born on August 27th 1939 in Binghamton, New York; daughter of the late George Howard Johnson and late Doris Allen Johnson.
Darla is preceded in death by her daughter Heidi Seymour and is survived by her two daughters Michelle Minton and Leanne Holmes. Darla was lovingly known as “Daba” to 6 cherished grandchildren and their spouses and eleven great-grandchildren; Adrienne and Ron Lyman and their daughters Cassidy and Ava and son Carter; Justin and Kara Seymour and their sons Henry, Benjamin, and Charlie and daughters Heidi and Anna; Adam Holmes and son Adam Jr.; Lindsay and Andrea Minton-Jack; Mallory Bryant and her daughter Ellie-Mae and son Shane; and Allyson and Michael O’Connor. Darla is also preceded in death by her sister Barbara (Bobbi) Taylor and is survived by her brother David Johnson.
Darla had an adventurous spirit manifested by the places she resided and the cultures she immersed herself in. She enjoyed sailing and diving in the US Virgin Islands, British Virgin Islands, and the Florida Keys. She was an avid skier traveling to Switzerland and skiing near the Matterhorn in the Swiss Alps, Italy, and Germany. In her free time she also enjoyed horse back riding and tennis. Darla was fascinated by Incan and Andean civilizations and traveled to Peru where she became enamored by the South American culture. Upon retirement as Assistant Vice President at Wellington Management, Darla built her home to live amongst the indigenous people of Ecuador. She relished in the Ecuadorian culture, lifestyle, and history and is also survived by her Ecuadorian family and god-children.
Darla leaves behind a legacy of wisdom, culture, adventure, strength, love and generosity. She was a resounding presence of strength and support for all who knew her, but especially her family. She will be missed immensely and may she rest in eternal peace.
