In loving memory of Darrell Clarence DeVore

Obituary

Darrell Clarence DeVore, 81, of Fort Myers, passed away Friday, July 20, 2018. He was born August 20, 1936 in Putnam County, Ohio to Clarence and Grace DeVore.

Darrell graduated from Carnegie Institute in Cleveland, Ohio. He was a registered Medical Technologist working and teaching mostly in the field of immunohematology. He received many awards during this time in his career, including the Distinguished Achievement and President’s Award.

Darrell met his wife in July of 1955 and they were married on November 26, 1955. They enjoyed 62 years of happy marriage.

Darrell was an avid Notre Dame fan being a season ticket holder for over 40 years.

He was a Private Instrument Rated Pilot owning a Cessna 210. Darrell enjoyed many trips across the United States with his wife, friends and family.

He enjoyed two very different careers. His first in the medical field and the second taking a full circle to come back to his roots as a restaurant owner. He and his wife owned Espenschieds Restaurant in Dover, Ohio, which specialized in steak and seafood for over 20 years. During this time, he was very involved in community and civic affairs as President of the Exchange Club of Dover and a member of the Tuscarawas County Chamber of Commerce Board. At the age of 55 Darrell and Barb sold their restaurant to begin their retirement journey.

Darrell and Barb purchased their condo in 1986; retiring full time to Florida in 2004. Always being civic minded, he became active in the Governors Island Condo Association. He served as President for one year and performed many duties for the association for over 30 years.

He attended First Christian Church of Ft. Myers for over 20 years.

He is survived by his loving wife, Barbara (Lagon) DeVore; his sister, Thelma Page of Ohio and many loving nieces, nephews and cousins.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Grace DeVore.

A Celebration of Life will be held for Darrell on Saturday, September 8, 2018 at 1 PM at First Christian Church of Ft. Myers, 2061 McGregor Boulevard.
