Obituary
Daryl William McKenzie, of Kissimmee Florida, passed away on Saturday February 18th, 2023 after a long battle with an aggressive form of cancer. He was 85 years old.
Daryl was born on October 5th, 1937 in Oxford, New York, the son of Harold A. McKenzie and Marion F Hawks. He attended Wyoming Seminary High School in Kingston, PA and Wilkes University Wilke-Barre PA receiving a degree in Bachelor of Science in Business Administration. Daryl was also in the Army reserves. He started his career as a school teacher in Harford Connecticut. Then worked as a Principal in Remsen, NY and Pulaski, NY. Later, as a Financial administrator in Baldwinsville, NY and Odessa, NY. Retiring to Nuangola, PA and in later years settling to Kissimmee, FL.
Daryl met his wife Shirley A. Semmer while attending Wyoming Seminary and they married on September 6th, 1958 at Christ United Methodist Church in Kingston, PA.
He enjoyed traveling with his family to Fort Lauderdale Fl, Venice and Rome Italy, the Boston Pops Concerts in MA and Syracuse University football and basketball games with his brother Harold and family. He also enjoyed cooking and gardening. He was an avid animal lover especially his beloved dog, Caesar.
He is survived by his second wife, Mary Canada McKenzie of Kissimmee Fl, his daughter Linda and son-in-law Michael Sherman of Westport NY, daughter Jill and Son-in-law David Salvatore of New Harford NY, Son Jeffrey McKenzie and Son-in-law Dominick Rudolfi of Orlando Florida. Five Grandchildren Jason Sherman of Westport NY, Katelyn Martin of Ithaca NY, Rebecca Martin of Syracuse NY, Samuel Martin of Ashville NC, and Anna Martin of Syracuse NY.
He is also survived by his twin brother, David and sister-in-law Helen McKenzie of Luisa, KY.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife for 56 years, Shirly Ann McKenzie who passed on February 8th, 2014, his daughter Dr. Laura Martin who passed March 23rd, 2021 of Syracuse NY, brother Harold and sister-in-law Catherine McKenzie of Oxford NY, sister Verlie Ann and brother-in-law John Skillman of Silver Spring, MD.
Daryl was active in the in Methodist church and Rotary Club in Baldwinsville, NY where the family took in exchange students from Germany, Belgium, and Paris. He was a volunteer at the Celebration Florida Hospital. Memorial Services are be planned by the family to remember Daryl in the Spring.
