Obituary
David Alan Doty, 68, died December 1, 2020, with his family by his side at Advent Health, in Tavares, Florida.
He was born on September 28, 1952 in Toledo, Ohio. David grew up in Toledo before moving to Northern Michigan in the early 70’s. He and his wife Charlene (Roop) were married for over 46 years and resided in Kingsley for most of those years before moving to Cleveland, Tennessee and most recently Leesburg, Florida. David was the owner of Truck and Trailer Parts in Traverse City for over 25 years.
David loved hunting, trap and sporting clay shooting, fishing, rock collecting (mostly agates), shopping and organizing his shop. He enjoyed teaching his grandkids about all of his hobbies. In earlier years he was an avid sea service hydroplane boat racer. He had many loving nicknames such as chub, putz, moron, and doofus. While living in his Florida community he made many friends and enjoyed being the head bingo caller. He loved his country and had a deep appreciation for our military and police officers. David served for the Grand Traverse Sheriff’s department as a reserve sheriff’s deputy in the early 80’s.
Survived by his wife Charlene, his daughter Jenifer Wolf (Justin), his son Ricky Doty (Mary), grandchildren Marcus, Carolyn, Alex, Nolan and Donald, his dog Mandy, his sisters Amy Eyman, Sandra Mulford (Tom), his sister-in-law Kathy Doty, his nephews, Andrew, Joey, and Christopher. A special mention is his best friend and hunting buddy Dennis Norman, who put up with his crap for more than 30 years.
Preceded in death by his mother Orva Doty, his father Calvin Doty and his brother Richard L. Doty.
