David E. Powell, 68, of Orlando, formerly of St. Charles, Missouri, died on May 16, 2014. Dave was born September 20, 1945 in St. Louis, Missouri, the son of John and Nellie (Knight) Powell. He married Elaine Hatfield in September 6, 1968. In addition to his wife Elaine, he is also survived by two sons: Steven (Kristi) of Columbia, MO; and Bryan (Katrina) of Winter Springs, FL; and grandchildren Michael, Jeanne, Elin, and Evan; brothers John "Doug" of Simi Valley, CA; Bruce of Littleton, CO and sister Janet Carter of Carlsbad, CA; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. David was born in ST. Louis, Missouri and moved to Orlando in 1992. He was a senior IT Architect for IBM before his retirement in 2012. He also worked at Lockheed Martin in Orlando and McDonnell Douglas (Boeing) in St. Louis, Missouri. Dave was active in the Boy Scouts of America where he served as both Cubmaster and Scoutmaster in St. Charles, MO. A Memorial Service will be Tuesday, May 20, 2014 from 12 – 2 p.m. at Casa Feliz Historic Home, 656 N Park Ave, Winter Park, FL 32789. And I'll not forget his signature, "Bopper", painted on the Washington/Elizabeth overpass in full view of his Alma Mater, McCluer Senior High School.
He will be missed!
(1 house between us) to the Powell family. We played together as children and attended elem. school across the street from me. David and I were selected (in 1st or 2nd grd. as maid of honor and he was my
escort, afterwards his mother invited me to dinner for roast duck! It wasn't until later I found out that was the pet duck we fed everday after school!
