Obituary

David Harvey Marino was born to Dottiemay nee: Cunkle and Harvey D. Marino on July1, 1946, in Harrisburg, Pa. He passed away peacefully on December 5th, at St. Francis Hospice in Titusville, Fl, taking his last breath on earth which became his first breath in heaven.

David grew up in Harrisburg attending Central Dauphin East where he was President of the Audio-Visual Aid club as well as a member of the Stage Crew and Public Relations. Before graduating in 1964, he began his 37 year radio career at the tender age of 15 in 1963 at WCMB- Harrisburg. The late Pierre Gonneau gave his first full time job at WFEC in Harrisburg. This was followed by WIOO in Carlisle, Pa. in 1967, and WRAP a black Station in Norfolk, Va. in 1968 During the years 1969- 1972 David spent his time at WEEX 99.9 as manager and DJ. He loved writing many of the jingles and put together numerous promotions featuring great artists such as Little Anthony and the Imperials at a beauty pageant on 25 th St. in Easton, Barbara Mason, Andy Kim, and others at a summer concert at Bushkill Park. He also did an on air promo where listeners could call in to win a chance to talk to Davy Jones. It was there that he met Nancy, the woman he would spend his final years with.

While at WNOW (Q106) owned by Rust Communications at that time.he was GM during the years 1981 and 82,. There he also consulted with other “RUST” stations (WHFM, WPTR, WFLY, WRNL and WKLX. He thought that WNOW was the most fun to program. He has been quoted as saying, “we took a basic top 40 format with good upbeat personalities, lots of production, very tight, lots of promotions, lots of jingles- the sound of a good top 40 station in the 1970’s. We were Country and did a good job of it. We won CMA “Small Market Station” 3 times.” David especially enjoyed writing his own jingles and working with other notables such as Brenda Lee and Janet Jackson and so many more. He finished up his last years in broadcasting at WLAN FM (Lancaster, Pa.) from 1985 to 1990.

At the urging of another radio friend David left radio to own a small insurance agency on the Gulf Coast of Florida until ill health forced his retirement at which time he and his wife Nancy relocated to the Space Coast of Florida. There David continued his devotion to music by helping to run the sound system for Faith Baptist Church until he could no longer climb the stairs. He also enjoyed playing the organ which he exceled at and even made cd’s on occasion. He loved to stay in touch with old radio buddies and was a masterful backgammon opponent. He was devoted to his teenage kitties Lilimae and Milliemae. David is survived by his sister Patricia, his children Angela, Lorraine, David, Candee, and Phillip as well as step- children Arthur and Irana and is greatly missed by his wife Nancy. A memorial service will be officiated by Pastor Jeremy Coppock at 4 P.M. on December 11th at Faith Baptist Church, 1235 So Park Avenue, Titusville. Fl..
