Obituary

David Leigh Hood was born on August 11, 1928 in Belvedere, CA, to Reuben and Zella (Rule) Hood. He was raised in the Durango, CO area and graduated from Durango High School in 1946. He served two years in the army during the Korean war and was stationed in Georgia in the US. He attended La Sierra College in CA and owned a Dairy Creme store in Farmington, NM before moving to Denver, CO, where he worked for 45 years for Gates and Sons, a large-scale producer of concrete forming systems. He worked his way up to being Vice President of Material Management. He also worked on the side for three physicians as accountant.

From 1969 to 1975, Dave was also a councilman in Northglenn, CO, a suburb of Denver, having won his first race by one vote. He also served as mayor pro term for a short time in 1972.

In 1987, Iris Darrell from Kansas City and David Hood from Colorado met in Hawaii. It was love at first sight for both of them. They were married on March 19, 1994, in Kansas City. Their extended family includes his 2 children and her 2 children. In 2001, they settled in Cape Coral, FL. They have enjoyed traveling and have been in most states. They have also gone on 21 cruises and traveled Europe, Asia and the Caribbean Islands.

Throughout his life, Dave was a member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church, serving in various capacities, including treasurer and deacon. He was a charter member of the Chapel Haven Seventh-day Adventist Church in Northglenn, CO and also the Seventh-day Adventist Church of Cape Coral, where he most currently was a member. Dave read his Bible daily, reading it through yearly. His hobbies were panning for gold, astronomy, reading and gardening, scuba diving, and bicycling. On his 60th birthday he bicycled 60 miles.  He had a great sense of humor which was noticed in the first few minutes of meeting him.

David passed away peacefully on September 1, 2018, three weeks after turning 90 years old. He is survived by his loving wife, Iris, and his devoted family: daughter, Pam (Randi) Suckut of Bowdon, ND; son, David Jr, of Northglenn, CO; step-son, Dan (Debbie) Darrell of Overland Park, Kansas; stepdaughter, Lisa (Charlie) Seymour of London, UK; 10 grandchildren; and 11 great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents; his brother, Donald; and infant daughter, Sharon.

Dave was a loved and loving spouse, parent, step-parent, grandparent, great grandparent, and friend. He will be greatly missed.

Baldwin Brothers, Fort Myers, is entrusted with final care.
